January

  • The Chinese New Year Run starts at Grant Ave. and Sacramento Street, the race winds its way through Chinatown and Fisherman's Wharf, and finishes on Kearny Street between California and Sacramento. 
  • DesignCon is an educational conference and technology exhibition at the Santa Clara Convention Center exclusively for practicing engineers in the semiconductor and electronic design communities. DesignCon 2013 will last from January 28th -31st.

February

  • Photonics West is North America's largest commercial exhibition on optics, lasers, biomedical optics, optoelectronic components and imaging technologies. . The event will be held February 2-7 in 2013. 
  • The AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, is a professional golf tournament on the PGA Tour, held every year at Pebble Beach, California. The tournament will be held February 4th to 10th in 2013. 
  • The SAP Open is a men's tennis tournament held annually in San Jose during the month of February. It is the second-oldest tennis tournament in the United States, which is still played.

March

  • The Cinequest San José Film Festival is a 12-day festival of film, film artists and technology featuring over 150 films from 22 countries.
  • The Special Olympics of Northern California showcases regional and championship competitions.
  • The Kings Mountain Half Marathon & 5 Mile Run route navigates the lush hiking trails through the Santa Cruz Mountains. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2012. 

April

  • Gamble Garden is a non-profit community horticultural foundation located in Palo Alto. The Spring Tour event will take place Friday and Saturday, April 27 and 28, 2012. 
  • The Rivers of Chocolate Festival is the premier chocolate-tasting event of Northern California it will be held at the Mountain Winery in Saratoga, CA on Sunday, April 29, 2012.

May

  • Bay to Breakers is the world's largest road race, run through the streets of San Francisco and Golden Gate Park. The event will be held on Sunday May 20, 2012.
  • San Francisco Carnaval's Grand Parade and Festival, Over Memorial Day weekend, San Francisco Cultural Arts Traditions (SFCAT) sponsors a parade down Harrison Street between 16th and 22nd Streets.

June

  • Sunset Magazine hosts their annual Celebration Weekend June 2nd -3rd , 2012 
  • The USA Swimming Grand Prix Meet is a two-day event hosting world-class athletes from around the United States. It is held in Santa Clara. 
  • The Santa Cruz Mountains Winegrowers Festival takes place over two weekends, celebrating local wineries and restaurants. This year' Vintners' Festival will be held on two consecutive weekends: June 2nd & 3rd and June 9th & 10th. 
  • The Randy Cross Invitational Golf Tournament has been attracting celebrities and sports enthusiasts alike since 1984. It will be held on Monday June 11th, 2012. 
  • Commencement week festivities take place to celebrate Stanford University graduates. Stanford's 121st Commencement Weekend is June 14-17, 2012.
  • The Silicon Valley International Triathlon features a 1.5k Swim, 40k Bike and 10k Run taking place on Sunday, June 24, 2012 at Almaden Lake Park in San Jose, CA. 
  • Concourse d'Elegance in Palo Alto is a classic car show and drive featuring private collections, choppers and more. The event takes place on Sunday June 24, 2012 at Stanford University.

July

  • The Bank of the West Classic tennis tournament is played at Stanford Tennis Pavilion; it is the longest running women-only tennis tournament in the world. Held at Stanford University from July 9th-15h, 2012.
  • The SEMICON West convention is the premier venue to reach the global semiconductor and flat-panel display industries. It will be held from July 10th -12th, 2012. 
  • Music@Menlo is a three-week chamber music festival in Atherton, with live concerts and jam sessions daily. The festival runs from July 20th through August 11th 2012.
  • The Alcatraz Sharkfest Swim is one of the most popular events in the area held on Saturday July 28th 2012.

August

  • The annual Rolex Monterey Historic Automobile Reunion is described as a museum springing to life, approximately 550 vehicles will be accepted to compete in the motoring event, based on the car’s authenticity, race provenance and period correctness. The event will last from August 17-19, 2012.
  • The Menlo Horse Show is a yearly charity horse show.

September

  • Stanford University Home Football Game on Saturday September 1, 2012 vs. San Jose State.
  • Stanford University Home Football Game on Saturday September 8, 2012 vs. Duke University.
  • The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® Series, 5K runs/fitness walk, raises significant funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer. The race goes along the Embarcadero, starting and finishing at the Ferry Building, the event will happen on Sunday, September 9th, 2012.
  • Stanford University Home Football Game on Saturday September 15, 2012 vs. University of Southern California.
  • The annual 36th Almaden Valley Art and Wine Festival is a family-oriented event that includes an arts and crafts show, wine and beer tasting and entertainment. It will be on September 16, 2012 at the Almaden Lake Park. 
  • The Palo Alto Weekly Moonlight Run and Walk offers 3-mile and 6-mile courses over the Palo Alto Baylands levee and through the marshlands by the light of the harvest moon.

October

  • “Rodin By Moonlight,” the much acclaimed biennial fundraiser for the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University. Proceeds benefit the Cantor Arts Center’s educational programs and exhibitions.
  • Stanford University’s Reunion Homecoming Weekend, October 4-7, 2012.
  • Stanford University Home Football Game on Saturday October 6, 2012 vs. Arizona. 
  • San José's Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon will be on October 7, 2012.
  • Fleet Week in San Francisco- Pier 39, at Beach St. and The Embarcadero; will be held during the second week in October. 
  • The Bridge School Benefit Concert is organized by musician Neil Young and his wife, Pegi, the concert is an annual, all acoustic, non-profit charity event held every October at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View. All proceeds directly benefit the operations of The Bridge School.
  • Stanford University Home Football Game on Saturday October 27, 2012 vs. Washington State. 
  • The Great Glass Pumpkin Patch event features thousands of one-of-a-kind, hand-blown glass pumpkins crafted by more than 30 artisans, as well as torch-working demonstrations and opportunities to learn about the glass-blowing process from the artists themselves.

November

  • The ‘Run Wild For A Child’ San Francisco Firefighters Toy Program hosts the 27th Annual Thanksgiving Weekend 10k/5k Run.

December 

  • During two weeks of the Holidays, Christmas Tree Lane (1705 Fulton St) in Palo Alto has a lights and decorations display. Christmas Tree Lane's lights are turned on at 5:00 pm and turned off at 11:00 pm nightly.
  • Christmas in the Park is a holiday tradition. Downtown San José’s Plaza de Cesar Chavez is transformed into a winter wonderland, complete with outdoor ice skating.
