Meatpacking District

This is My New York

"The Meatpacking District is one of the most vibrant parts of Manhattan. It is not a huge neighborhood, but it is one of my favorite places to go in the city that has a lot to offer. It has become very trendy, with a good number of exciting restaurants, designer boutiques, art galleries and nightspots."

  • 1. PASTIS | 9 Ninth Ave.

I begin my day at the very popular French Bistro, Pastis, which is always filled with local New Yorkers as well as visitors. While you’re there, don’t forget to try the Pastis, an aniseflavored aperitif from the south of France.

  • 2. THE HUDSON RIVER

After breakfast, I’ll head north on 9th Avenue towards the Hudson River. Upon crossing the West side highway, you’ll see several piers that have been nicely restored by the city. Pier 54 is the pier in which the infamous Titanic was scheduled to dock.

  • 3. THE HIGHLINE | Enter at 14th St. & Ninth Ave.

Take the elevator up to the Highline, an elevated freight line built right around 1930 and is now a beautifully redesigned park. The Highline is a mile long and stretches through different sections of Manhattan.

  • 4. CHELSEA MARKET | 75 Ninth Ave.

Well known for its lobster rolls, Chelsea Market is also home to the Food Network, numerous stores and more recently, Google - so take your time strolling through and tasting all the delicious foods they offer.

  • 5. GOUND ZERO MUSEUM WORKSHOP | 420 West 14th St.

This workshop is a New York City cultural stop that is not to be missed. View the rare photographs taken on September 11th, which captured the heart of Ground Zero and what it looked like through the eyes of the firefighters.

  • 6. FIG AND OLIVE | 420 West 13th St.

For lunch, one of my favorite spots is Fig and Olive, a casual restaurant that serves Mediterranean cuisine. This restaurant’s concept focuses on the use of different olive oils.

  • 7. JEFFREY | 449 W. 14th St.

Shopping will be the focus of the afternoon. Visit one of my favorite department stores, Jeffrey. Here you will find some of the most exciting pieces that fashion has to offer and an excellent shoe selection.

  • 8. ZAC POSEN | 874 Washington St.

Need a chic new dress for work, dinner or a date? Zac Posen won’t disappoint!

  • 9. EXHALE SPA | 18 Ninth Ave.

Indulge yourself with a massage and a facial at Exhale Spa. This unique spa offers typical spa treatments along with mind and body classes with expert trainers.

  • 10. AJNA BAR | 25 Little West 12th St.

For dinner, I’ll head over to Ajna, formerly known as the Buddha Bar. Ajna is often referred to as a chic temple that features beautiful Asian décor, a fish tank, a DJ and great Asian fusion cuisine.
