General information

An important terminus on the Silk Road, Damascus offers an abundance of ancient mosques, churches, souks and ruins. At the crossroads of Asia, Africa and Europe, it is also an established diplomatic hub with an active business community, sophisticated shopping and splendid restaurants. Unique diversions include the 1,200-metre (3,937-foot) Mount Kassion, with marvellous views of sunsets and city lights from its summit, and – a 90-minute drive from Four Seasons – Krak des Chevaliers (Castle of the Knights), considered by some to be the greatest fortress in the world. Syria’s most famous tourist attraction – Palmyra, one of the best-preserved ruins of a Roman city – is within a three-hour drive.
