My Four Seasons

A River Runs Through It

Towards the Atlantic Ocean, Uruguay's Rio de la Plata is among the widest rivers in the world, facilitating a thriving commerce between ports in Buenos Aires, Montevideo the world beyond. Our window on the river - some 45 miles upstream from the Argentinian capital - is a calmer affair, dotted with remote, castaway-style islands and lush stands of pine and eucalyptus.

Indeed, resort life at the Four Seasons Carmelo unfolds at a leisurely pace along its lilting shores. We embrace the river's sandy banks and swimmable beaches as a focal point of the resort’s most popular activities.

Aboard the evening sunset cruise, journey through rich ecosystems of the nearby Delta, a subtropical region once teeming with jaguars. Or paddle by canoe down any number of meandering tributaries, listening for the call of herons, partridges, and White-Winged Coots along the way.

Some of the finest fishing ports of the Río de la Plata lie just downstream from our grounds. Team up with expert guides to cast for sportfish like the Golden Dorado-- nicknamed the “River Tiger” for both its size (up to 25 kilos) and tenacious fight.

Whatever adventure makes your stay in Carmelo special, we're sure the splending, beautiful Rio de la Plata will be an important part of it.
