Family Itinerary

Spring into Chicago List for Families

Spring in Chicago is a thrilling time for local and visiting families alike. As mittens and hot chocolate give way to bicycles and beautiful blooms in the city’s many parks, Chicago buzzes with excitement, and families can discover an array of new opportunities for city fun. Visit great playgrounds, museums, restaurants and shops, and spring into Chicago with our list of family-friendly activities.

Yours to Explore

Unlimited family fun awaits! Make memories that will last a lifetime with activities that are perfect for all ages.

Day 1

Evening

  • Plan your arrival to the Hotel just in time for the kids to step into the kitchen with the chef and create their own pizzas, then head up to the pool to burn off some energy. After your swim, visit the concierge desk to borrow a movie you can enjoy along with your pizza – delivered through In-Room Dining – and rest up for the big day ahead.

Day 2

Morning

  • Wake up bright and early for special access to the John Hancock Observatory to watch the sunrise.
  • After breakfast at the observatory’s sky-high café, take the kids to a class at the Kid’s Science Lab in Lincoln Park. They will learn how to make goo or create a faux volcano!

Afternoon

  • Once the science fun is finished, head over to RL, the only Ralph Lauren restaurant in the country, for lunch. The kids will feel like movie stars, and Mom and Dad will have a classic Americana menu to choose from.
  • Head south to the Theatre District to take a behind-the-scenes tour of the Oriental Theatre. Depending on which show is in town, your kids might see costumes from Broadway classics such as Wicked or The Phantom of the Opera.
  • Hop on a quick “L” ride over to the Federal Reserve’s Money Museum. Get there by 1:00 pm for the daily tour, or explore on your own. Learn about counterfeit money and the biggest dollar bill ever printed, and take a picture with a million dollars!

Evening

  • Taxi your way back to Four Seasons Hotel Chicago to prepare for a dinner out on the town. Have a light bite with some local jazz at Andy’s Jazz Club, where kids are welcome until 7:30 pm, then stroll over to RPM, the hottest Italian restaurant in town, where you’ll catch any celebs that might be visiting.
  • Or take the family to Belly Q and enjoy contemporary Asian food with an urban appeal. Ask the Concierge to arrange a table with a grill and the kids can carefully cook their own Korean barbecue!

Day 3

Morning

  • Walk just down the street from the Hotel for a sugar buster breakfast at Glazed and Infused. This gourmet “doughnuttery” offers the quirky and the classic, from a chocolate-frosted bacon long john to the best old fashioned in town.
  • Or, go around the block from the Hotel to Chicago's own Hendrikx Bakery to taste an authentic Belgian croissant or some delicious white-chocolate bread. These are both great treats to bring back to your room to enjoy over your view of the city, or take them as a breakfast to-go to make the most of your last day in the city.

Afternoon

  • Prepare for an afternoon of imagination at the fort exhibit at the Children’s Museum. They supply the materials to create the best fort imaginable!
  • If you have time, ask the Concierge to help you get tickets to Cirque Shanghai, and watch as the performers soar through the air at the open-air theatre at Navy Pier.
  • Get tickets to a Chicago Cubs baseball game and make sure to get there early! On Family Sundays, the first 1,000 kids under the age of 15 get to run the bases at the iconic ballpark.
  • Head over to the Peggy Notebaert Nature museum, where butterflies are released every day at 2:00 pm. It will bring you right next to Lincoln Park Zoo, which is open rain or shine. Don’t miss the Tree Top Canopy Climbing Adventure, their ubermodern 21st-century jungle gym.
