900 Shops
The epitome of upscale fashion featuring Bloomingdale's Fashion store and six levels of fine stores and restaurants. Shop some of the Magnificent Mile's finest retailers including Coach, Lalique, Montblanc, Kaehler TravelWorks, J.Crew and teuscher Chocolates of Switzerland. Dining choices include Tucci Benucch, Baisi Thai, OakTree and Johnny Rockets.
Hancock Observatory
The 100-story John Hancock Center, one of the world's 10 tallest buildings, dominates the Gold Coast skyline along Chicago's Magnificent Mile. The observatory deck, on the 94th floor, is accessed by the world's fastest elevator which moves at 1,800 feet (549 metres) per minute – making the trip in a mere 39 seconds. Once there, you will have an excellent view of Lake Michigan, the city skyline and, on a clear day, four different states.
Museum of Contemporary Art
The intriguing Museum of Contemporary Art is a showcase for international art created since 1945, both visual and performance art.
"The Magnificent Mile" is a glittering stretch of shopping on Michigan Avenue with such stores as Brooks Brothers, Burberry, Cartier, Chanel, Gucci, Neiman Marcus, Ralph Lauren, Saks Fifth Avenue and Tiffany & Co. Newer stores include American Girl Place, Prada and Max Mara.
Water Tower Place Shopping Center
Eight levels of premier shopping including department stores Marshall Field's and Lord & Taylor, as well as an extensive food court known as "Foodlife".
Chicago From The Lake
Architectural and Historical boat cruises from the exclusive dock at River East Plaza (435 East Illinois Street - lower level), a 15-minute walk from The Water Tower and short walk from Navy Pier. Each 90-minute cruise is fully narrated by a professional docent, and offers complimentary refreshments.
The Architectural Cruise, capacity of 180, includes the main, north and south branches of the Chicago River, and is available from May 1st to October 31st.
The Historical Cruise, capacity of 55, includes Lake Michigan and portions of the Chicago River. This cruise is offered from late April through mid October.
Art Institute of Chicago
Among the nation's best art museums, the Art Institute of Chicago houses one of the world's largest and finest collections of French Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings. Works by El Greco, Rembrandt, Picasso, Dali, Renoir, Van Gogh, Seurat and Monet are displayed.
Drive
Architectural Boat Cruise
Cruise up and down the Chicago River with a guided tour of Chicago's world renowned architecture. Approximately 90 minutes in duration. Schedule varies depending on the season.
Goodman Theatre
Founded in 1926 the Goodman Theatre presents some of the best live performances in the country. Everything from classic American theatre (Death of a Salesman) to new, experimental works are staged here.
Lincoln Park Zoo
Lincoln Park Zoo, a 35-acre (14-hectare) zoo in the heart of the city, is the nation's oldest and most visited zoo. It houses 2,500 animals, birds and reptiles, representing 450 species.
Navy Pier
Navy Pier makes Chicago's top lakefront destination a one-stop entertainment venue. The Family Pavilion includes a large-screen IMAX theater, Chicago Children's Museum, restaurants and retail shops, as well as access to boat rides and cruises.
Shakespeare Theater
Shakespeare Theater is home to the Shakespeare Repertory Company. This intimate space, only 525 seats, provides a comfortable venue for productions of Shakespeare and other great playwrights. The theater is located at Navy Pier.
Adler Planetarium
The Adler Planetarium offers three floors of exhibits on space exploration, navigation and astronomy.
House of Blues
Not just a blues bar, this venue presents the best in live music from many genres. Seating is limited.
Lyric Opera of Chicago
Lyric Opera of Chicago, founded in 1954, is one of the world’s greatest opera companies. Its home is the beautiful art-deco Civic Opera House, built in 1929, with a 3,563-seat auditorium renowned for excellent acoustics and sightlines. Eighty performances of eight operas are presented each season between late September and late March. Spectacular productions, internationally acclaimed casts.
Millennium Park
As part of an initiative to promote public use of Chicago’s lakeshore, Millennium Park offers attractions for everyone. The Park includes the Lurie Garden and Crown Fountain and is home to the renowned Cloud Gate sculpture or "bean". Concerts are performed at the Pritzer Pavillion throughout the year, with dining at the Park Grill and ice skating available from November to early March. Oriental Theater (Ford Center for the Arts)
The Oriental Theater, closed for 17 years, has reopened after an extensive refurbishment as the Ford Center for the Performing Arts. Acoustics and sightlines are exceptional.
Sears Tower
The Sears Tower is one of the world's tallest buildings at 1,454 feet (443 metres). An important stop on any Chicago tour, it offers an enclosed skydeck observatory on the 103rd floor.
The Field Museum of Natural History
The Field Museum of Natural History is one of the four great such museums in the world. Evolved from exhibits brought to the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition, it's a magical place with animal exhibits, dinosaurs (including Sue, the largest fossil of a Tyrannosaurus Rex), gems and the world's largest collection of anthropological art from the Pacific Islands.
The Symphony Center
The Symphony Center, designed by Daniel Burnham and built in 1904 in the beaux-arts style, was renovated and reopend in the fall of 1997. Home of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
Soldier Field
Built in 1924, Soldier Field is home to the Chicago Bears (football) and the Chicago Fire (soccer). See concierge about game and concert tickets and box seats.
The John Shedd Aquarium
The John Shedd Aquarium is the world's largest indoor aquarium. There are 4,500 underwater creatures, representing 500 species, housed in six fresh and saltwater tanks.
The United Center
Chicago's United Center is a state-of-the-art sports arena that is home to the Chicago Bulls (basketball) and Blackhawks (hockey).
Wrigley Field
A Chicago landmark since 1914, this classic ballpark, the second oldest in the nation, is a monument to the United States' national pastime: baseball. Home of the Chicago Cubs. See Concierge about tickets and box seats.
Museum of Science and Industry
The Museum offers 2,000 displays in 75 exhibit halls. Designed to illustrate the impact of science, attractions include a full-scale coal mine, a walk-through model of a human heart, a captured World War II German U-505 submarine and the Apollo 8 command module.
U.S. Cellular Field
Built in the 1990's as a replacement for the original Comiskey Park, this baseball stadium is the home of the Chicago White Sox. See Concierge about tickets and box seats.
Arlington Race Track
Opened in 1927 and recently renovated, Arlington Race Track is an institution in horse racing. Racing season extends from May 14 to September 30.
