More Four Seasons Stories
Though Carmelo enjoys a mild climate year-round, harvest season is a particularly special time at our resort. It’s here - during the peak months of February and March - that you’ll experience the thrill of sampling unique Uruguayan vintages that simply aren’t produced anywhere else.
Tannat is the little-known varietal that’s best suited to the local climate and terroir. Introduced to South America by nineteenth century Basques, its notes are rich with berries, spices, and soft tannins that only improve with age. (It also pairs extraordinarily well with the charred meats of open-air asados - traditional Uruguayan barbecues).
Our inside connections and unrivalled location amongst Carmelo’s most esteemed vineyards grant unprecedented access to one of the most emerging, under-the-radar wine scenes in the world.
Start your journey at Finca Narbona, a sprawling, family-owned hacienda set just ten minutes from Four Seasons Carmelo. Stroll the fragrant fields with the head vintner, learning firsthand how grapes are selected to yield each year's vintage. While harvest season finds the ranch in full bloom, it’s a joy any time of year, with regular tastings in a rustic wine cellar that dates back over a century.
Whether you're a seasoned oenophile or just like a casual glass with dinner, you'll find a new appreciation for wine - and especially our local varieties - after your deep dive into the vineyards and vintages of Carmelo.
