It is the only comprehensive conference centre in the country, over 30 hectares (74 acres) of it. Many fascinating mosques to be explored in Old Cairo, including: Ibn Tulun, built between AD 876 and 879 and the oldest mosque in Cairo; Al-Azhar Mosque, constructed in AD 971 as both a mosque and madrassah (school); the Aqsunqur, or Blue, Mosque, built by Prince Aqsunqur Al-Nassery in AD 1347, so named because of its walls of isnik blue and turquoise mosaic; the Mohammed Ali Mosque (the Alabaster Mosque) within the walls of the Citadel built in AD 1183.

Dr. Hassan Ragab spent 20 years creating this most precise living recreation of ancient times. Hundreds of actors and actresses move about the village re-enacting daily life in the time of the Pharaohs. Static and interactive displays, children's entertainment and a restaurant complete the exhibit. Guided tours last two hours.

The Coptic churches include Al-Kaneesah Al-Mu'allaqah (the Hanging Church) which dates back to the late 4th and early 5th century, the church of Abu Sergah (Church of St. Sergius) also founded at the end of the 4th century, and the church of Sitt Barbara (Church of St. Barbara) founded in the 5th century and rebuilt in the 10th century.

Both boats are designed after the ancient Pharaonic Papyrus boats. Each boat consists of two large decks, with open buffet and a large outdoor bar. There are three different cruises each day. The last one for dinner includes an entertaining show with a band, folklore show and belly dancing.

The Pyramids of Giza are dominated by the Great Pyramid, constructed for King Cheops around 2650 B.C. Close to the eastern flank of the Pyramid of Cheops are three small pyramids dedicated to either his wives or family members. The second pyramid, built for Kephren, son of Cheops, southwest of his father's pyramid, has a simple interior with two entrances on the north side. The third one was built for Mycerinus (Menkaure), Cheops' grandson, lies southwest of the others and is the smallest of the three.

On the way to the pyramid of Kephren sits the statue of the Great Sphinx of Giza, one of the most famous monuments in the world, a legendary figure with the body of a lion and the face of a man.

This museum is south of the Great Pyramid, and is built over the rectangular pit preserving a barque, the wooden boat for the king's journey with the sun god, Ra, to the afterworld. Discovered in 1954, in a completely dismantled state, the 43-metre (140-foot) cedar boat was subsequently restored.

This museum, in Old Cairo just north of the Hanging Church, offers a large collection of Christian objects, including a fine collection of icons and textiles dating as far back as AD 300. There's also a library with 7,000 books and manuscripts. Lush gardens surround the building, which is decorated with many mosaics.

This is considered one of the most prominent museums in the world. It was built during the reign of Khedive Abbass Helmi II in 1897, and opened on November 15, 1902. It has 107 halls divided into seven sections, each section devoted to one era in Egypt's history. The museum's most significant showpiece is the Tutankhamun collection.

The Gezira Sporting Club is the largest multi-sport facility in Egypt. Private lessons are available by reservation in tennis, golf and horseback riding amongst others. The club has a nine hole golf course, 24 clay tennis courts and a running area.

There are many stables near the pyramids offering horseback riding and lessons. Horses are usually rented by the hour, though some block tours are available (e.g., to Saqqara, four hours away).
