Museum of Contemporary Art

Balboa Park
Balboa Park is 1,200 acres (485.5 hectares) of museums, theatres, gardens, sports facilities, the San Diego Zoo and plenty of open spaces, which can be reserved for outdoor group functions.

Biplane, Air Combat and Warbird Adventures

Birch Aquarium at Scripps
The Birch Aquarium at the Scripps Institute of Oceanography offers displays on oceanographic sciences and an outdoor plaza with a demonstration tide pool and discovery station. Classes are held year-round in the aquarium's two sea-water-equipped classrooms, whale-watching and tide-pooling excursions, and other special events are year-round diversions.

Del Mar
Del Mar is a seaside community known around the world as a Hollywood movie star playground, and is ideal for group dine-arounds. It also plays host to thousands of fair and race track fans each summer in the thoroughbred horse racing season.
K1Speed Indoor Racing
Experience the thrill of wheel-to-wheel racing in high-performance Italian karts. K1Speed is the largest indoor kart racing facility on the American west coast.
La Jolla attracts sophisticates and surfers alike. Once a hideaway for the Hollywood elite, it is now an exclusive seaside enclave that has been artfully preserved and enriched by an eclectic mix of galleries, fine restaurants and shopping. Prospect Street is known to locals and visitors alike as San Diego's Rodeo Drive.
LEGOLAND
LEGOLAND, designed for children ages 2 to 13, is a family park that combines hands-on interactive attractions, family rides, food stands, five restaurants, four shops and four shows. Landscape features include unique LEGO themes modelled after the original LEGOLAND in Denmark. Thirty million LEGO bricks are used throughout the park setting. Amusements such as boat tours, water play areas, mazes and simulated jousts will entertain the entire family.
Magdalena Ecke YMCA Skate Park
The skate park includes a street course with quarter pipes, bank ramps, a 13-foot (4-metre) vertical ramp, a keyhole pool and a "tot lot" for smaller children.
Mission San Juan Capistrano
Mission San Juan Capistrano is beautiful, charming and romantic. Its serenity and peace amid lush gardens and cool fountains, cloistered by old adobe walls, offers visitors seclusion from the sounds and sights of a busy world.
Mission San Luis Rey
This mission, the largest in California, was restored and declared a National Historic Site. The buildings are a blend of Spanish, Moorish and Mexican architectures. The mission is still used as a seminary and parish church and houses a retreat center with educational workshops and facilities for conferences, weddings and banquets, as well as a museum and gift shop.
Early California-style architecture has been preserved in Old Town San Diego State Historic Park, lending an old-fashioned ambiance to the area. The district boasts several museums, Mexican restaurants and craft shops. Tours are available daily at 2:00 pm.
Reuben H. Fleet Science Center
The Reuben H. Fleet Science Center houses five interactive Exhibit Galleries; the Space Theater, which showcases larger-than-life IMAX® films on its giant dome screen; SciTours, a brand new motion-based simulator attraction; the Nierman Challenger Learning Center, a dramatic program featuring a realistic Mission Control mockup and 21st century space station to simulate a space voyage; two state-of-the-art classrooms plus a Little Learners Lab for scientists ages 2 to 6; North Star Science Store, featuring a mix of fun and educational toys, logo apparel and souvenirs; plus the new Galileo's Café, which offers a wide variety of tasty sandwiches, salads, beverages and snacks.
San Diego Wild Animal Park
The San Diego Wild Animal Park is a 1,800-acre (728-hectare) wildlife preserve where more than 3,200 animals roam over expanses that match their native habitats. It also is the home of the largest research and development facility for the preservation of the wild rhino and other animals.
Sea World
Sea World is a 150-acre (60-hectare) marine-life park located on San Diego's Mission Bay. Among the major attractions are Manatee Rescue, Shipwreck Rapids, Shark Encounter, Shamu the Killer Whale, Wild Arctic and Rocky Point Preserve, the world's largest dolphin and sea otter habitat.
In the last decade breweries and wineries have flourished in San Diego County. In the Temecula Valley, just north of San Diego, the magic of soil, climate and skills combine to yield some wonderful wines spread out over 13 wineries. Guided tours are available.
The Gaslamp District is Southern California's premier dining, shopping and entertainment district. Here visitors can enjoy a truly eclectic blend of food, fun and culture in one of San Diego's most historic areas. Originally the heart of San Diego's business district, the Gaslamp District became a raucous centre of gambling houses, opium dens and saloons by the turn of the 20th century. Now inhabited by artists and craftspeople, the 16-block area is restored to its original splendour. Boasting theatres, shopping and over 100 restaurants, the Gaslamp District offers plenty to see and do.
Located in beautiful Balboa Park, the 100-acre (40-hectare) world-famous San Diego Zoo was founded in 1916 by Dr. Harry Wegeforth, a San Diego physician, who started the collection with 50 animals gathered from various local menageries. Today, the San Diego Zoo cares for over 3,800 animals of 800 different species, and its collection of plants and animals is acknowledged as one of the finest in the world. Visitors can enjoy entertaining tours, shows and exhibits such as Ituri Forest, Gorilla Tropics, Hippo Beach, Tiger River, Sun Bear Forest and Polar Bear Plunge. The zoo is also home to Hua Mei, the first surviving giant panda cub ever born in the United States, and an international symbol of hope for the future of giant pandas.
The Wave Waterpark is owned and operated by the City of Vista, and offers a competition pool, a wave pool, a children's activity area, water slides and tube rides.
Torrey Pines State Reserve
Torrey Pines State Reserve is home to the rare, twisted Torrey pine. The Reserve is one of only two places left on Earth where you can see this endangered tree. Trails offer spectacular seaside views; guided weekend walks are available. No food or beverages are allowed in the Reserve. Visitor centre and museum are open daily.
Wave House
Located on the boardwalk in the heart of San Diego's Mission Beach, Wave House is a 7-acre (3-hectare) beachfront attraction featuring a 10-foot (3-metre) simulated surfing facility – Bruticus Maximus.

San Diego Maritime Museum
The museum is home to the National Historic Landmark ships the Star of India and the Berkeley, and the steam yacht Medea.
San Diego Natural History Museum
Permanent displays include the Hall of Desert Ecology, a Bug Zoo with live local and exotic insect specimens, an interactive Discovery Lab, plus fossils, skeletons and "Foucalt's Pendulum," a 235-pound piece of steel swinging from 50 feet of steel aircraft cable. The museum also houses more than 45,000 specimens of birds, 22,000 specimens of mammals and 135,000 botanical samples. Visiting exhibits round out this comprehensive display of our natural world.
USS Midway Aircraft Carrier Museum
Take a self-guided audio tour of the awe-inspiring aircraft carrier that opened to the public as a museum in 2004. The USS Midway was the longest-serving carrier in the history of the U.S. Navy and now is destined to become the flagship of aircraft carrier museums. Commissioned a week after the end of World War II, the Midway embarked on an unprecedented 47-year odyssey, which ended after serving as the Persian Gulf flagship in Desert Storm.
Scenic day trips A little more than an hour’s drive will get you across the Mexican border to Tijuana, the largest city in Baja. Duty free shopping in the myriad unique shops along the famous Avenue Revolucion holds a special appeal for visitors.

Carlsbad Premium Outlets
Carlsbad Premium Outlets features 90 stores where you will find upscale shopping at an affordable price in an attractive outdoor setting. Retailers include Polo Ralph Lauren, Kenneth Cole, Calvin Klein, Cole Haan, Barneys New York, Kenneth Cole and Juicy Couture, just to name a few. A myriad of dining options are also available. Access is off I-5 and Palomar Airport Road, just west of the Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch.
Horton Plaza
The centrepiece of the new downtown is Horton Plaza, a historic area that has been transformed into a unique shopping mall and entertainment pavilion. Musicians, jugglers, bright banners and a view of the city and bay make Horton Plaza colourful by day and enchanting by night.
Seaport Village
Seaport Village is a charming shopping village on the waterfront. Shops, boutiques and galleries offer fine art, collectibles and handcrafted goods from all over the world. Ride the antique carousel with its hand-carved wooden horses or fly kites above the harbour.

Broadway – San Diego

House of Blues features live music and Southern-inspired cuisine in an environment celebrating the cultural contributions of blues music and folk art.
La Jolla Chamber Music Society
San Diego's premier classical music presenter, with visiting orchestras, and ensembles in five series. Summerfest La Jolla is a three-week festival in August. Main series performances are held at Copley Symphony Hall. Call the box office for information.
La Jolla Playhouse
The La Jolla Playhouse, at the University of California at San Diego, is not only a professional stage producing world premieres and attracting Hollywood and Broadway talent, but also hosts the university's theater department. Fine performances presented year-round.
Lamb's Players Theatre
One of the San Diego's leading professional theatres, with a year-round season of productions in a state-of-the-art theatre featuring intimate, European-style seating.
Old Globe Theatre
A Tony Award winning theatre, located in the Simon Edison Center for the Performing Arts in Balboa Park, is modelled after Shakespeare's original. The theatre produces 13 or more works annually, mostly Shakespeare, but other works are staged, too.
San Diego Civic Theatre
A premiere venue for performances of the San Diego Opera, California Ballet, La Jolla Chamber Music Society and San Diego Playgoer's Broadway series.
San Diego Opera
Major operas presented at the Civic Theatre and the Sports Arena. Special concerts and outreach programs throughout the city. Call for tickets or more information.
San Diego Repertory Theatre
The underground Lyceum Theatre is home to the San Diego Repertory Theatre, which produces a six-play subscription series big on comedies and dramas that explore cultural diversity. September through June.
San Diego Symphony Orchestra
The San Diego Symphony Orchestra's regular season runs from the fall through spring. Summer Pops outdoor concerts are held in the summer months at Mission Bay.
Starlight Musical Theatre
This 53 year old professional musical theatre company produces Broadway-style musicals at the Starlight Bowl in Balboa Park during the summer. Occasional winter productions at the Lyceum.
