General information

Known as the capital of the New South, dynamic Atlanta has been Georgia’s state capital since 1877. The city is steeped in the history of the Civil War and the civil rights movement. Yet Atlanta is also a vibrant, sophisticated, forward-looking city – a major airline hub, a sports centre and a focal point for US corporate headquarters.

Atlanta’s most desirable neighbourhood is Midtown, offering central convenience – five minutes from Downtown and ten minutes from Buckhead. With its own towering business district, Midtown is also a charming neighbourhood of historical residential architecture, high-fashion boutiques and one-of-a-kind restaurants. This is the setting for the city’s most prominent cultural institutions, including the High Museum of Art, the Alliance Theatre and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Expansive green spaces include the scenic Piedmont Park – the crown jewel of Atlanta’s parks, reminiscent of New York’s Central Park – and the famed Botanical Garden. Georgia’s legendary sunshine creates a lush landscape of flowers and shade trees.
