September 1–4. Land in bustling Tokyo, Japan’s ultramodern centre of design and innovation. Several activities are available here to suit every taste. Architecture and history aficionados may want to explore Asakusa and the Sensoji Temple, the oldest in Tokyo, or step into the future at the Panasonic Living Showroom. Culinary fans will enjoy visiting the world’s largest fish market and learning to make sushi with a master chef. Visit the Ginza district for a taste of Tokyo style and some of the city’s most outstanding shopping, including the Mitsukoshi department store and flagships for Cartier, Chanel and Dior.
Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Marunouchi
September 4–7. One of China’s most complex and cosmopolitan cities, Beijing is the perfect base for exploring some of the country’s greatest icons. Visit Tiananmen Square and tour the Forbidden City, a former imperial palace and now a UNESCO World Heritage site. Of course, no visit to China would be complete without a view of the Great Wall, the impressive barrier that took over 2,000 years to build. Contemporary art enthusiasts will have an opportunity to visit the 798 Art Zone, an area of former warehouses and factories that now house some of the nation’s leading galleries and studios.

September 7–10. Arrive in the Maldives and take a short boat ride to the tiny garden island of Kuda Huraa. Swim or snorkel among delicate corals and the colourful creatures that inhabit them, including more than 700 species of fish. This island paradise’s waters are also home to sea turtles and spinner dolphins. Go surfing, scuba diving, kayaking and deep sea fishing, or simply pass the time in your luxurious private bungalow.

September 10–13. Tanzania has more land devoted to national parks and game reserves than any other country on Earth. Your safari adventure will begin the moment you land in the bush, when you’ll enjoy a game drive en route to Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti. Then venture deep into the savannah to surround yourself with the beauty of the land and its wild inhabitants – Africa’s densest “big cat” populations (lions, cheetahs and leopards) thrive here, alongside wildebeest, zebras, gazelles and giraffes.

September 13–16. Fly by private jet to Istanbul, a city of graceful domes and soaring minarets. Visit the colossal Hagia Sophia, a sixth-century Byzantine masterpiece whose dome has influenced architecture around the world for 1,500 years. Stroll the Grand Bazaar, brimming with jewellery, pottery, carpets and spices. Explore Topkapi Palace, the opulent residence of Ottoman sultans that houses splendid jewels, furnishings and other treasures. Or examine the stunning azure-coloured Iznik tiles that line the interior of the imposing 17th-century mosque of Sultan Ahmet I, known as the Blue Mosque.

St. Petersburg, Russia
September 16–19. Founded in 1703 by Peter the Great, who wanted his city to surpass the grandeur of its Western counterparts, St. Petersburg offers a treasure trove of architectural and cultural riches. Visit the lavishly restored Catherine Palace and the Amber Room, and examine the superb art collection at the Hermitage Museum, including the famous Treasury Gallery. Tour the Peter and Paul Fortress, the city’s oldest structure, to see the beautiful grounds and historic cathedral with its needle-thin spire and baroque interior. You may also cruise the Neva River and canals of St. Petersburg, or visit the Russian Museum, the Church of Our Savior on Spilled Blood and Saint Isaac’s Cathedral.

September 19–22. Fly by private jet to Marrakech, located in an oasis of palm and olive groves and steeped in ancient Berber tradition. Explore this fabled city, visiting the Ben Youssef Madrasa and the grand Bahia Palace, and view the Koutoubia Mosque. Wander through the medina, a jumble of colourful souks (markets), and stroll the Jemaa el Fna, a lively square where snake charmers, acrobats and magicians enchant passersby. If you wish, immerse yourself in the lush blue and green paradise of the Majorelle Garden, or choose to spend a day in the spectacular Atlas Mountains, visiting a Berber village and sharing tea with a village elder and his family.
