Local Artwork on Display
Jordan a is country with a longstanding culture rich in art and archaeological masterpieces from ancient civilizations. That tradition continues today with craftspeople and artisans like Lama Hourani, one of Jordan’s most famous jewellery designers. Her pieces capture Jordan’s essence by blending and fusing the ancient with the contemporary.
“The designs are simply symbols, my own calligraphy,” Ms. Hourani said of her work. “They usually remind people of things they’ve seen in the natural world, in the desert.”
Lama's love of art started early on as her mother opened one of the first galleries in Amman committed to showcasing art of the Middle East as well as championing local Amman artists. Lama and her sister Reem are continuing their family’s tradition by running the gallery, Foresight32, as a showroom for Lama’s jewellry as well as showplace for local and Middle Eastern artists.
Because Four Seasons Hotel Amman has a strong tie in the city, and given that 98% of the staff is Jordanian, we wanted to support our community by hanging the work of Amman’s artists. So the Hotel partnered with Foresight32 Art Gallery and we now display its range of local and regional artwork in our public spaces – and all of it is available for purchase.
As Lama Hourani says, “I’ve always been fascinated with Jordanian culture, and I wanted to find my own way to present it to the world.” Four Seasons Hotel Amman wholeheartedly agrees with her sentiment, and we are thrilled to work in partnership with the Hourani sisters in order to bring Jordanian art to a larger international audience.
